GG Valve!

So Half-Life 2(HL2) is supposed to come out soon. In anticipation of the release Valve is supposed to offer a beta test of one Counter-Strike:Source(CS:S) map to all the people who bought Counter-Strike:Condition Zero(CS:CZ). So I have 2 problems with that.

  1. CS:S is just old Counter-Strike with a new face. No new gameplay. No new weapons. And the worst part? CS:S is what Valve is offering as their Multiplayer for HL2. Oh goodie. Old CS, no new gameplay, and all for Just $50! (Oh, and get this: The map they are using for the beta is de_dust, the oldest, most played out map in existince.

  2. In order to be in on the beta you have to have bought CS:CZ. So I would have had to buy CS for a 3rd time! No thanks, that's just lame. I realize they need to give everyone a reason to buy the much hyped but very dissapointing CS:CZ, but this is ridiculous. You would think as a show of good will to the fans who bought Half-Life multiple times in one form or another, stayed interested in the game even after all the disinformation and delays, and generally stuck with the company for the past 5+ years, that Valve would offer the Beta to the community at large (or at least those with a valid HL key of some sort). But nope, you've got to buy CS:CZ.

Like I said before, GG Valve. Now this isn't saying I won't buy the game, because I will (if it ever comes out). I am just annoyed at how they have handled every bit of this HL2 campaign. I sorta feel bad for them. If this game isn't the best game ever, the fans will eat them alive. Lets just hope that HL2 is the best game since the original HL. For everyone's sake.

--EDIT--
Oh, and I forgot to add one thing: Valve, you suck. One of the best things about HL was that it ran on damn near any video card (no matter who made it), and it ran good. I've played on 8 meg S3 cards all the way up to my current 256mb geForce FX 5900 Ultra and I've always had smooth frame rates. Now you're going to tell me that HL2 only runs well on ATI's latest and greatest? Sellouts. That is one way to gut the community you built around yourselves. I sure hope all this ATI only crap is being exagerated, because if HL2 doesn't look awesome on my nVidia card, I am going to be pissed.

I looked at the hardware survey information Valve posted. I don't know the exact percentage, but it was 70%+ all use nVidia. It'd be dumb for them to screw nVidia users over.

And if they do there's always Doom 3. 7/27/2004 2:32 AM | Christian

Yeah, but what in the last year or so has Valve done that strikes you as a smart move? I have hope that the game will still run good on most new cards, but I also have fears. We'll see. 7/27/2004 8:49 AM | los
